About The Position

This position requires candidates to have sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the role. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs and other organizations. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in previous positions, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position is governed by Public Law 97-35, which mandates that individuals administering radiologic procedures meet specific credentialing standards. Candidates must have completed an accredited educational program and be certified as radiographers in their field. The job has various grade levels (GS-05 to GS-08) with specific minimum qualifications outlined for each level, including experience in performing diagnostic radiographic procedures and specialized tasks.

Requirements

  • One year of experience performing routine diagnostic radiographic procedures for GS-05.
  • Completion of a full-time training course in a post-high school radiography program for GS-05.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 for GS-06.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 for GS-07.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07 for GS-08.
  • Possession of a current unrestricted ARRT certification in Computed Tomography for GS-08.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate level education directly related to the work of the position for GS-07.
  • Experience with computerized axial tomographic scanning for GS-08.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine diagnostic radiographic procedures under supervision.
  • Produce digital images of routine views of the body.
  • Perform a variety of difficult radiographic examinations.
  • Explain procedures to patients and position them accordingly.
  • Set up and adjust equipment for radiographic procedures.
  • Monitor patient vital signs during procedures.
  • Assist radiologists in complex procedures.
  • Maintain logs of patients and procedures used.
  • Prepare and administer contrast materials for examinations.
  • Operate and maintain X-ray equipment.
