About The Position

We are seeking experienced Certified Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists (DRTs) to provide high-quality imaging services to veterans at the Northport VA Medical Center (79 Middleville Rd, Northport, NY 11768). This role supports the Department of Veterans Affairs and requires strict adherence to professional, regulatory, and facility-specific standards. Compensation: $50.00/hr plus $5.09 for Health and Wellness Services cover multiple imaging modalities, including: General Radiography (X-ray, fluoroscopy), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR). This is a full-time, on-site position requiring rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and federal holidays, to support 24/7 imaging coverage.

Requirements

  • Unrestricted license to practice Radiologic Technology in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • ARRT certification in Radiography (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification in Computed Tomography (CT) for CT technologists.
  • Advanced ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) for MRI technologists.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in advanced modalities or documented case experience for specific procedures.
  • Proficiency in English (read, write, speak, and understand).
  • In-depth knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and application in CT and MRI imaging.
  • Experience performing IVPs, GI series, barium studies, modified barium swallow exams.
  • Experience performing cardiac CT exams with gating.
  • Experience performing interventional CT procedures (biopsies, RFAs, cryo-ablations, etc.).
  • Experience performing bone densitometry/DEXA scans.
  • Familiarity with sterile techniques, IV contrast administration, and patient hydration procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of PACS, CR/DR systems, and imaging safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures in accordance with ARRT standards and American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines.
  • Provide general radiographic, fluoroscopic, CT, and MR examinations with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and adherence to VA medical staff by-laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with radiologists during specialized procedures such as biopsies, drainages, ablations, and interventional CT.
  • Maintain accurate imaging records and track reportable CT doses.
  • Safely operate imaging equipment, including 320-slice and 64-slice CT scanners, portable C-arms, and PACS systems.
  • Follow all radiation safety, MRI safety, and FDA/MQSA quality assurance requirements.
  • Participate in initial competency assessments and ongoing credentialing/privileging processes required by the VA.
  • Support the VA’s standards for patient access by providing timely service in accordance with wait-time and consult completion goals.
