Responsible for performing ultrasounds in a professional and diagnostic manner. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Imaging, Allied Health Certificate/Diploma or a minimum of one year equivalent work experience is preferred.
  • Registration in at least one of the following areas of sonography is required: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or registry eligible.
  • Registry preferred within two years after hiring.
  • If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.
  • For employees who provide outreach mobile services, maintenance of a valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.

Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly understand the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilize new technologies.
  • Perform a variety of ultrasound examinations.
  • Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and good rapport with patients and all organizational staff.
  • Maintain a high standard of medical ethics at all times and be self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the sonography field.
  • Display empathy, compassion, and integrity.
  • Possess an understanding of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Conduct self professionally at all times, even during moments of high stress.
  • Assist when necessary with the maintenance of accreditation requirements and processes.
  • Understand age-related protocols for various testing.
  • Coordinate work with physicians or other healthcare team members, including providing assistance during invasive procedures when applicable.
  • Supervise and train students and medical sonographers as needed.
  • Report and call in-service requests on equipment when needed.
  • Expand job responsibilities to include echocardiography based on the facility.
