About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Diagnostic Medical Physicist for a full-time position. This role is based in Charlottesville, VA and services surrounding sites in the Blue Ridge region. This is an onsite position with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8AM to 4:30PM with some variation of hours required for business needs. We are expanding our team in this region due to growth in the department and organization. Sentara has more than 500 sites of care including 12 hospitals, medical groups, imaging services, therapy, outpatient surgery centers, and urgent care centers. Our Medical Physics Team services all areas within the system. Medical Physics Team offers: Strong training program, designed around each person’s needs to ensure both quick and complete preparation for the job at hand. All imaging modalities supported: inspections, accreditation, policies & procedures implementation & reviews. Dose optimization initiatives, teaching of residents, and radiation safety duties. Requirements

• CAMPEP accredited program Master’s degree or higher in Medical Physics.
• CAMPEP accredited residency in diagnostic medical physics if graduate degree was completed after July 1, 2013.
• Actively working toward American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification.
• At least two (2) years clinical residency/training in Diagnostic Medical Physics.
• 5 years of Medical Physics experience preferred.
• Radiation Safety experience preferred.
• Proficiency in all diagnostic radiology modalities required.
• Team collaboration and communication skills required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in teaching or training in a clinical setting.
• Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge in all aspects of diagnostic imaging physics, including new technologies and practices.
• Proficiency in all diagnostic radiology modalities including CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Ultrasound, and general x-ray.
• Meet American College of Radiology accreditation and VA and NC regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of radiation safety principles including radioactive materials licensing and patient radiation dose calculations.
• Evaluate outcomes related to patients’ fluoroscopy exposure due to Interventional Radiology.
• Design radiation shielding as needed for new and replacement radiological equipment.
• Teach radiology physics to radiology residents and provide radiation safety education for staff and patients.
• Build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.
