The Technologist I position supports diagnostic and genetic quality control testing to ensure the health and integrity of animal colonies. Working under general supervision, this role performs routine tasks such as necropsies, parasitology, microbiology, and data entry while adhering to BSL II safety guidelines. Technologists are expected to develop proficiency in core technical skills and demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail to maintain testing quality and colony health. Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Perform routine diagnostic testing including necropsy, parasitology, and microbiology following established protocols. Collect and process biological samples from mice for health monitoring and diagnostic purposes. Prepare media, plates, and tubes for microbiological testing and perform quality control checks. Streak and culture samples; assist in identification of normal mouse flora under supervision. Record and manage data accurately in laboratory databases, ensuring proper sample tracking. Assign appropriate tests based on animal type and health status. Adhere strictly to BSL II safety guidelines for sample handling, waste management, and laboratory procedures. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment in compliance with laboratory standards. Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding unusual findings or issues requiring resolution. Participate in ongoing training and demonstrate progress toward proficiency in core technical skills. Additional duties as assigned, including assisting with genetic quality testing under supervision.
