About The Position

Performs independent technical work in support of mammography section under the direction of a supervisor and radiologist. Operates Mammographic equipment as part of the diagnostic plan for patient care. The technologist provides technical training and assistance to other personnel and provides indirect support to the Chief Technologist and Lead Technologists. Position includes general management of patient flow, quality of work, and supply restocking.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of mammography examinations. Receives patient, explains the method of the procedure, positions the patients adjusts the equipment and makes the necessary mammographic exposures. Obtains patient history and enters it into the current HIS system.
  • Assists the radiologist and operates the equipment in the performance of special mammography tests, including, but not limited to diagnostic and screening mammograms.
  • Functions as an HIS Superuser for the section; tracks all patients using the Mammography specific HIS system, prints and mails patient result and reminder letters.
  • Assists with protocoling of mammography requests and schedules exams.
  • Assists the radiologists in filling out various reports for positive or negative findings and follow up care.
  • Responsible for uploading mammograms from other facilities.
  • Coordinates scheduling with the Women's Health Clinic as needed.
  • Performs daily and monthly QA checklist as dictated by the FDA and ACR according to the Mammography Quality Assurance guidelines and maintains accurate documentation. Ensures that mammographic examinations are done ONLY if the entire QA checklist is done and there are NO areas are out of compliance.
  • Submits work orders for repair of equipment and maintains documentation.
  • Incumbent assists with meeting FDA requirements, preparation for the FDA annual inspection, completing QA testing, documentation and correction of any deficiencies noted.
  • Confers with radiologists to determine requirement of non-standard exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, MAS and KVP, etc., to produce and satisfy requirements of diagnostic images. Notify Radiologist of any exams requiring their immediate attention.
  • Receives patients, explains method of exam, and obtains signed consents. The incumbent is responsible for proper positioning of patients. Prior to exposure selects and sets technical factors. Sets up and adjusts accessory equipment required and makes exposures necessary for the requested procedures.
  • Checks patient's record in CPRS prior to exam, annotates record as needed, and scans patient consent forms into the patient's record if electronic consent is not available. In addition, completes patient incident forms in the JPSR system, and assists with clerical/ file duties as needed.
  • Maintains records of patients examined, examinations performed, views taken, and technical factors used.
  • Performs other duties as assigned under the direction of a supervisor or lead.
