The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine invites outstanding candidates in the field of Diabetes research to apply for the position of Scientific Director of the Diabetes Research Institute. The ideal candidate will contribute to the Diabetes Research Institute's (DRI) mission as one of the largest and most comprehensive research centers dedicated to curing Type-1 diabetes. The Director will guide the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI), which is a state-of-the-art facility that occupies approximately 90,000 sq ft of research and clinical activities, an operating budget in excess of $15M, and almost 100 faculty, staff, and trainees. The Diabetes Research Institute's longstanding philosophy drives its collaborative, fast-track approach to advancing cutting-edge disciplines that have a real potential to deliver a cure. Its singular focus on discovering a biological cure for Type-1 diabetes, along with the integration of technology and medicine, is supported by multidisciplinary teams comprised of researchers, engineers and clinicians, as well as a host of international partners. Currently there are 89 faculty, staff, and trainees at DRI, including 21 full-time faculty. The candidate will engage existing expertise in such areas as tissue engineering, immunology, biomaterials, cellular reprogramming, genetics, and regenerative medicine, and lead the development of novel programs in these and other innovative areas in order to transform research, education, and patient care.
