The role includes providing consultations for patients and families regarding diabetes therapy, participating in instructing outpatient groups and one-on-one sessions, scheduling and registering outpatients for classes, documenting outpatient education in medical records, and developing teaching tools. The position also involves serving as a resource and clinical expert for identified diabetes inpatients, assisting with education for newly diagnosed patients, assessing needs of complicated diabetes patients, and consulting with medical staff as needed. Additionally, the role requires ongoing education of hospital staff regarding changes in diabetes management practices and maintaining professional growth through certifications and community activities.
