About The Position

The Diabetes Educator at Saint Francis Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive diabetes education to both in-patient and out-patient departments. This role involves assessing the educational needs of patients and staff, coordinating and implementing diabetes education programs, and ensuring compliance with diabetes care standards. The educator will also facilitate training for nursing staff and communicate educational needs to management, demonstrating accountability and adherence to nursing care standards.

Requirements

• Current and valid state RN or RD License/Registered.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Certified Diabetes Educator certification preferred, or 15 hours of Continuing Education in Diabetes within 2 months of hire and annually until certification is obtained.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an acute care hospital environment.
• Excellent clinical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Team approach to patient care.
• Working knowledge of computers and computer applications.
• Flexibility for day and evening shifts.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's of Science in Nutrition preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily assessment of diabetes education needs for in-patient and out-patient departments.
• Coordinate, implement, and evaluate diabetes education related to clinical nursing functions.
• Ensure nursing staff is oriented to diabetes standards of care and policies.
• Facilitate learning of new skills and update current skills related to diabetes care.
• Communicate with Directors and Supervisors regarding diabetes educational needs.
• Participate in planning the diabetes education curriculum.
