Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Food / Nutrition required.
• Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association required.

Nice To Haves

• Licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians preferred.
• National certification as a Diabetes Educator (CDE) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for conducting individualized needs assessments, planning and providing individualized and group instruction in diabetes self-management education/training and meal planning and Medical Nutrition Therapy.
• Documents in the permanent education record all aspects of the education services provided.
• Provides and documents follow-up for patients who receive education.
• Assists in planning, implementation and evaluation of the diabetes patient education program.
• Interacts with other health professionals as a productive team member.
• Promotes the diabetes center services through participation in community activities.
• Accountable for assuring the diabetes diet instruction complies with national standards.
