About The Position

The Engaged Scholar Activists work in tandem with the professional staff of the Center for Service Learning to support long running and high impact engagements bridging the gap between Regis and the wider community it is situated within. The ESA program is dedicated to mentoring and growing its student leaders across their time at Regis, and encourages its participants to get involved in a wide range of activism efforts, ultimately creating their own job descriptions (with the help of professional staff).

  • Availability 7 hours per week (unless you’ve been previously excepted from this rule) from August 2025 – May 2026. Must be able to make a commitment for both fall and spring semesters.
  • Work will be done mainly in the classroom and the Regis community.
  • All work spaces are located in the CSL office, Loyola 30.

Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in a one-hour meeting or training with the entire ESA staff on a weekly basis
  • Participate in regular check-in meetings with the Student Directors/Accountability Partners
  • Speak formally and informally on behalf of the ESA Program, representing the program in front of classes, at required events, and in the halls of RU
  • Serve as a liaison between the CSL and your designated academic department(s)
  • Meet with faculty and your designated academic department(s) to brainstorm, create, implement, and evaluate curricular and/or co-curricular Service Learning (SL)/Community Based Learning (CBL) opportunities
  • Research potential SL/CBL opportunities to match particular academic goals and seek actual SL/CBL placements where viable match has been determined
  • Collaborate with CSL staff to write CBL curriculum pertinent to particular academic goals
  • Introduce SL/CBL component to classrooms engaged in SL/CBL this academic year.
  • Locate and provide educational resources to specified classes engaged in CBL/SL
  • Mentor students seeking CBL/SL site placement for CBL/SL classes
  • Recruit additional students to serve in leadership roles in classrooms engaged in SL/CBL
  • Foster semester-long relationships between the CSL and faculty/students engaged in CBL/SL, supporting faculty and students in their expressed needs
  • Facilitate in-class debriefs on CBL/SL activities or small-group sessions outside of class
  • Invite relevant guest speakers to classes, facilitating the full process of introducing them to the faculty, introducing them in class, thanking them, and getting them honorarium
  • Serve as the liaison between the CSL and designated community organizations
  • Brainstorm, plan, implement, and evaluate curricular and co-curricular SL/CBL immersions
  • Maintain good working relationships and open lines of communication with all engaged in the Program

Benefits

  • Benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
