Devops Engineer

BS&ALansing, MI

About The Position

The DevOps Engineer owns BS&A Software’s CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, Azure SaaS infrastructure provisioning, and internal developer tooling across our full product portfolio — Cloud ERP, BS&A Payments, BS&A Online, and prior-generation on-premises desktop applications. The immediate priority is taking full ownership of release deployments, pipeline management, and build/packaging processes, including leading the near-term migration from TFVC to Git. Longer term, this role drives modernization through self-service tooling, standardized pipeline templates, and deployment patterns that improve velocity and reduce risk. This individual reports to the Director of Engineering and works closely with the SRE, Platform Development Team, and development teams to ensure the delivery pipeline supports both product velocity and the stability expectations of BS&A’s municipal government customer base.

Requirements

  • 4+ years in a DevOps, release engineering, build engineering, or infrastructure automation role within a software product company
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps: YAML pipelines, gated builds, artifact management, and release orchestration
  • Experience managing production deployments for SaaS and on-premises applications, including rollback procedures and zero-downtime strategies
  • Experience with Git and TFVC, including branching strategies, merge workflows, and migration between VCS platforms
  • Working knowledge of IAC tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
  • Experience with .NET application build, packaging, and deployment — including InstallShield installer project maintenance
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across build, deployment, and cloud infrastructure layers

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft certifications: AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert) or AZ-104 (Azure Administrator)
  • Experience with blue/green or canary deployments, feature flagging, and progressive delivery patterns
  • Familiarity with containerization concepts (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and security tooling integration in CI/CD pipelines (e.g., dependency scanning, secrets detection, SAST)
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tooling in a CI/CD context

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve all CI/CD pipelines (build, test, release) across SaaS and on-premises product lines; build pipelines for new services as the portfolio expands
  • Lead the TFVC-to-Git migration, including pipeline redesign, branching strategy, and developer enablement
  • Develop standardized pipeline templates that development teams can consume; evaluate AI-assisted code review and quality tooling for integration into the build pipeline
  • Own all production deployments across SaaS and on-premises product lines, including code merge operations each sprint
  • Maintain build packaging, InstallShield installer projects, and distribution processes for on-premises .NET applications
  • Drive toward blue/green deployment patterns and zero-downtime strategies; maintain deployment runbooks, rollback procedures, and release checklists
  • Provision and manage production Azure infrastructure (VMs, SQL Managed Instances, Storage Accounts) as customer growth requires; provision dev, test, and sandbox environments as requested
  • Operate within IT-established networking and security guardrails; coordinate with the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for network changes impacting production deployments
  • Build/Improve tooling to automate operations between production and staging environments, replacing manual processes and enabling self-service for professional services teams
  • Develop tenant onboarding automation (database provisioning, storage setup, workflow configuration) and self-service tooling for common operational requests across the organization
  • Continuously identify opportunities to reduce toil, eliminate manual handoffs, and improve engineering velocity through standardization and automation
  • Partner with the SRE on deployment practices, observability, alerting, and incident response alignment
  • Participate in a weekly infrastructure sync with the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (IT) and SRE to coordinate shared Azure concerns, policy changes, and cost management
  • Coordinate with development teams on release planning, deployment scheduling, and pipeline requirements for new services and features
