About The Position

The Client Linux OS Engineering team within Platform Software Engineering, Client Computing Group is focused on developing system software solutions across various operating systems for Client SOCs. We are seeking a highly skilled Device Driver Engineer to lead the development, integration, debugging, and maintenance of Windows/Linux kernel drivers that enable Intel's x86 client product roadmap. This role requires a deep understanding of low-level system software, kernel internals, and hardware-software co-design to optimize platform performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in research, development, product engineering, and/or validation.
  • 8+ years of strong expertise in C, C++, and object-oriented programming with experience in kernel-mode and user-mode driver development for Windows/Linux.
  • 5+ years of experience with x86 Architecture Internals and ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with popular kernel debugging tools, such as: Windows: WinDbg, KD, TraceView. Linux: GDB, KGDB, KDB, Ftrace, Perf, SystemTap.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Windows Driver Kit (WDK), Linux kernel development, debugging tools, and low-level system programming.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art development tools and open-source software development practices.
  • Familiarity with PCIe, USB, Bluetooth, and other device interfaces.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Windows/Linux kernel components for Intel x86 client platforms.
  • Engage in device driver development, board bring-up, system debugging, and performance optimization for Intel processors.
  • Implement critical silicon-level telemetry and streaming features to enhance system performance, power, and reliability.
  • Lead performance profiling and analysis of Intel SOCs designs, focusing power management, C state wake, and residency, to identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
  • Debug silicon and software failures throughout the product development lifecycle, including both Pre-Silicon and Post-Silicon phases.
  • Develop new test strategies and tools to enhance driver verification and validation processes.
  • Design and enhance open-source media pipeline solutions to maximize performance over Intel SoC products through HW/SW co-design and co-engineering.
  • Collaborate with Intel engineers and the open-source community to enable new platform features and contribute upstream.
