About The Position

The Developmental Support Specialist (DSS) is responsible for coordinating family services for assigned clients within the Healthy Beginnings system of care. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, screening and assessment to determine program eligibility; parental education, and providing referrals and linkages to further assessment for families with children ages birth through age 2 within Palm Beach County. This position will provide services in the field and requires flexibility with daytime and evening hours to accommodate client schedules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services (preferably in a field such as social work, developmental psychology, and/or early childhood education).
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in child welfare, primary prevention services, child development or related field.
  • Schedule includes occasional evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Bilingual English/Creole required.
  • Valid Florida’s driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct developmental screenings for children ages 0–2 using approved assessment tools, and provide age-appropriate developmental activities during home and community visits.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with enrolled children and families, completing screenings at required developmental intervals through age two.
  • Provide home safety evaluations, including safe sleep education and developmentally appropriate home safety guidance.
  • Analyze screening results, identify developmental concerns, and coordinate referrals to Developmental Consultants or other services as needed.
  • Educate families on available community resources and systems, including Healthy Beginnings, Children’s Services Council (CSC), Early Learning Coalition (ELC), and other partner services.
  • Support families in accessing services by providing referrals, linkages, and assistance in navigating complex or medically related systems and paperwork.
  • Participate in outreach, community events, trainings, and collaborative partner efforts to engage and support families.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation, data entry, reporting, and participation in meetings, CQI activities, and flexible scheduling (including evenings or weekends as needed).
