The Development Writer at North Carolina State University will be responsible for crafting compelling storytelling and messaging that highlights the impact of private financial support on the university community. This role involves creating content for various channels to engage donors, inspire constituents, and promote a culture of philanthropy within the institution. The Development Writer will collaborate with colleagues across departments to produce strategic communications that effectively convey the importance of philanthropy to diverse audiences.

  • Create compelling and concise content in support of philanthropic priorities, including stewardship and cultivation materials, website features, and acknowledgment letters.
  • Collaborate within the team to provide copy for DCS-led initiatives.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to draft talking points and event scripts.
  • Work closely with development and communications colleagues to plan, create, and implement strategic communications.
  • Review and edit donor communications for content and branding.
  • Attend university philanthropy-related events as appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in professional writing and editing for higher education, nonprofit fund development, or communications/public relations fields.
  • Knowledge of fundraising for higher education or nonprofits.
  • Familiarity with AP Style and appropriate software applications.
  • Ability to conduct research and synthesize information clearly and accurately.
  • Understanding of branding and positioning strategies for the institution.
  • Strong project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Experience writing for fundraising campaigns within higher education or high-level donors.
  • Knowledge of digital communications practices and tools such as WordPress.
