  • Perform professional engineering work involving the review and design of proposed developments, street design, drainage design, utility plans, and building permits.
  • Review site development plans and building permit applications for conformance with adopted regulations and standards.
  • Review quantities and cost estimates for subdivision improvement agreements and development agreements.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret development regulations in relation to infrastructure requirements.
  • Provide public counter support to developers, builders, contractors, and the general public regarding County engineering requirements.
  • Prepare and review engineering designs, specifications, costs, and quantity estimates of development projects.
  • Identify required easements or permits for roadway and drainage and other public works projects.
  • Conduct complex studies on land use and development applications to address significant development issues.
  • Prepare special engineering studies and reports; perform special assignments on development infrastructure problems as necessary.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding engineering policies and procedures on specific projects.
  • Prepare and review the adequacy and accuracy of computations, preliminary layout, and design work from field and survey data.
  • Research deeds, gather data, and produce right-of-way documents for development review applications.
  • Review building permits and related right-of-way dedication and requirements associated with the permit.
  • Provide staff engineering support for Board of County Commissioners, Planning Commission, and Board of Adjustment meetings.
  • Perform technical review of construction applications and other engineering documents to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Resolve or justify controversial and complex technical problems.
  • Review and prepare comments regarding proposed construction applications.
  • Oversee the maintenance of office records, maps, construction project documents, and related records.
  • Attend public meetings and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure that construction permit applications comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Exercise professional engineering judgment in accordance with accepted practices and appropriate laws.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Possession of an Engineering Intern (E.I.) certification required.
  • For Engineer II: Minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience; land use and development experience preferred.
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Colorado, or ability to obtain within one (1) year.
  • One (1) year of professional civil engineering experience for Engineer I.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering may substitute for six months of experience.
  • Experience with permitting and document review software such as Accela, AutoCAD, and Hydrology review software.
