About The Position

The Canton College Foundation welcomes applications for a Development Officer to join a team of well-qualified and energized Advancement professionals to further the Foundation's dynamic partnerships with faculty, students, staff, alumni, parents, corporations, and the community, throughout the North Country and beyond.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree with 2 or more years of professional work experience, or bachelor's degree with 1 or more years of work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fundraising and charitable giving, either through direct solicitation or through ancillary support roles in a fundraising organization.
  • High comfort level with reaching out to and meeting new people, and ability to make strong connections that lead to productive relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with staff or volunteers at various levels of engagement.
  • The ability to innovate and think creatively regarding gift strategies for donors and prospects.
  • Willingness and availability to travel up to 25% of the time to cultivate and solicit gifts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and persuasion skills as well as planning, analytic, and problem resolution abilities.
  • Energetic and self-directed with strong organizational skills, including the ability to set clear priorities and manage time well.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound judgments without close day-to-day supervision.
  • Knowledge of best practices in advancement, and experience and skill in using advancement software, social media and networking tools such as Raiser's Edge, iWave, MS Teams, Zoom, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, and work collaboratively with diverse constituencies including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the strategy, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for a portfolio of approximately 120 - 150 donors and prospects, focused on alumni from SUNY Canton's Canino School of Engineering Technology.
  • Work with major donors as well as first-time and annual donors who have the potential to support the students, faculty, and programs of SUNY Canton.
  • Help create relationships with existing donors and connect donors' philanthropic interests and the priorities of the College.
  • Conduct discovery work to identify and cultivate new prospects.
  • Become an expert on the programs, faculty, vision, and needs of the CSOET.
  • Forge close partnerships with the Dean, faculty, and alumni of that School.
