About The Position

The Development Officer for Major Gifts at Stanford University plays a crucial role in supporting the fundraising efforts of the Medical Center Development team. This position involves managing a portfolio of prospects, conducting data analysis, and collaborating with faculty and gift officers to enhance donor relationships and secure funding for Stanford Medicine initiatives. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Three years of project management or program management experience desired.
  • Fundraising experience, especially in building relationships with donors and soliciting gifts.
  • Experience managing and coordinating complex projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent technical skills, particularly in Excel, Word, and donor management databases; experience with Salesforce is a plus.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize information and compose clear prose.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to follow through on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer-service focus and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Build and develop a portfolio of prospects in areas across medicine, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding their support.
  • Conduct prospect discovery work through reporting, data analysis, qualification, and research.
  • Establish ongoing relationships with individual prospects through personal visits, phone calls, and engagement activities.
  • Prepare faculty agendas and data components, including prospect lists and indications of prospect inclination or interests.
  • Attend faculty meetings as needed and work with faculty and gift officers to develop solicitation strategies.
  • Write proposals for prospective donors as needed and renew or recapture lapsed donors.
  • Utilize reporting and MCD databases to conduct data analysis projects for sourcing major gift level prospects.
  • Manage grateful patient data and reporting, pulling lists and conducting analysis to identify major rated prospects.
  • Work as the main liaison between partner teams to coordinate projects and deliverables for aligned gift officers.
  • Maintain and update dashboard results on fundraising progress monthly and prepare reports as needed.
  • Work as the data partner for select events, creating invitation lists and tracking responses.
  • Support major gift officers in preparing draft briefing materials, letters, and other communications.
  • Coordinate with Medical Center Development teams to ensure projects are on track and consistent with strategy.
