About The Position

Americans United for Life seeks highly qualified and motivated undergraduate and graduate students to serve as a development intern. AUL internships are outstanding opportunities for exceptional students committed to life issues. Interns are expected to work in AUL’s offices located in Washington, DC. Internships are typically unpaid, with some exceptions, and may be undertaken for credit (as approved by their school) or to fulfill other graduation requirements. While many internships are hosted in the summer months, internships may be considered on a rolling basis throughout the school year. The Fundraising & Development Intern will support the Director of Development, the development team, and stewardship partners on a broad range of initiatives and can expect a fast -paced, well -rounded experience in nonprofit fundraising and operations. The ideal candidate should possess strong customer service, research, and communications skills (can include coursework and/or previous internships or volunteer experience), and familiarity with nonprofit organizations, fundraising, database and/ or event management. This includes the ability to conduct internet research, write compelling materials, maintain accurate database records, prepare and review letters and other correspondence, and provide customer service to donors and mission partners. They should also possess a strong work ethic, curiosity, a commitment to collaboration and teamwork, and tactfulness. An interest in nonprofit management, as well as pro -life and family policy is an asset. Through this internship, we hope to support candidates seeking careers in the nonprofit sector, particularly in the pro -life or family policy area.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Conduct internet research using a variety of sources (websites, tax filings, and proprietary databases)
  • Update donor and contact information
  • Prepare letters and draft correspondence for the Executive Team and Development Team members.
  • Assist with outreach to current and prospective partners, sponsors, and donors, including scheduling calls and meetings
  • Assist in major donor special projects, as needed.
  • Draft fundraising materials
