About The Position

The City of Union City is seeking a detail-oriented Land Development Inspector I to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing construction and development sites, with a strong focus on soil erosion and sedimentation control, as well as environmental protection.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in soil erosion and sedimentation control, construction site inspections, and plan interpretation.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques of urban planning, economic development, and redevelopment
  • Knowledge of comprehensive and current planning principles, procedures, techniques, and their implications.
  • Knowledge of applicable city, county, state and federal laws, codes, ordinances, and development regulations concerning land use and environmental matters.
  • Knowledge of basic building, grant and alternative funding principles, practices, and methods
  • Knowledge of environmental issues as related to planning and development review process
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of engineering and physical design as related to city planning.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of Public Administration.
  • Knowledge of current literature trends and developments in the field of land use, urban planning, and community development
  • Knowledge of socio-economic and demographic research techniques.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and management principles and practices.
  • Skill in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to learn the existing inventory of available building and business and residential development sites within the community. This will include both public and private buildings and land areas
  • Ability to prepare clear concise and competent reports, correspondence, and other written materials
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer satisfaction
  • Ability to prepare reports, plans, and studies and to accurately interpret ordinances and codes.
  • Ability to write reports clearly and in an interesting manner while conveying technical information to the general public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, City personnel, developers, and the public.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
  • Ability to operate City vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of construction sites, land development projects, and infrastructure improvements to ensure compliance with approved site plans, plats, landscaping plans, and city codes.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of land development and building projects and permits, including grading, clearing, paving, drainage, and stormwater management.
  • Ensure compliance with approved permits, construction plans, and environmental regulations.
  • Review and interpret land development plans, site plans, construction plans, and permits before conducting inspections.
  • Enforce erosion and sedimentation control codes, ensuring BMP’s are adhered to, and issuing citations and corrective actions as needed.
  • Investigate complaints and recommend solutions for violations or environmental concerns.
  • Collaborate with city departments, contractors, developers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Represent the City in meetings, hearings, and community discussions related to land development.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Notifies responsible contractor, subcontractors engineers, architects, or homeowners of code violations, discusses corrective options; issues citations; makes recommendation for stop work orders if necessary.
  • Administer maintenance and performance Post Development /Stormwater bonds for site development; calculates amount of performance bond(s) as required for each project; maintains bond documents; inspects complete work; and return bonds that meets standards.
  • Inspects and approves construction and installation of streets, street striping, curb, gutter, sidewalk, storm drains, and sanitary sewers as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate reports, documentation, and records of regulatory enforcement.
