The Harris County Flood Control District (District) is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Development Inspector. The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, which is the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou. Reporting to the Lead Inspector, the Development Inspector is responsible for the coordinated inspection of construction activities performed in the District's rights-of-way or proposed rights-of-way being completed by any non-District entity. This position is also responsible for ensuring developers and their designated contractors perform and execute the work outlined in the approved plan sets in accordance with District specifications.

  • Inspect civil construction within the District rights-of-way in accordance with approved plans and District specifications.
  • Document daily construction activities in the DCIS database of assigned projects.
  • Photograph construction activities on assigned projects and uploads to online repository.
  • Coordinate and correspond with developer's representative and District staff in relation to assigned projects.
  • Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years' experience in construction to include civil, residential or a similar field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or assignments.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to work in an outdoor setting.
