About The Position

Under the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Development Coordinator has overall responsibility for the management and coordination of volunteers, events, data, and logistics. The ability to maintain warm, positive relationships between the volunteers, community partners, and MCHS programs is essential. Maintaining a positive and amenable working relationship with all liaisons from various funding sources, program staff and personnel from each volunteer site is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and at least three (3) years of experience in fundraising/development, or
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred with at least three (3) years of experience in fundraising and/or development.
  • Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.
  • Computer and software applications (All MS Office)
  • Principles and practices of fund development operations and management
  • Tactical strategy, planning and organizing

  • Motivate, develop, and cultivate community partners and donors

  • Work flexible hours, when needed, which may include some evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain close relationships with individual volunteers, volunteer groups, corporate partners, community groups, and vendors through year-round business plans
  • Identify opportunities for our volunteers, corporate partners and community groups to make an impact through MCHS programs and events
  • Cultivate volunteers and community partners with the goal of identifying and transitioning highly engaged individuals to deeper philanthropic involvement
  • Identify volunteer prospects with donor potential and coordinate warm handoffs to the Chief Development Officer and Development Officers
  • Develop organizational relationships with Redford-area service clubs and community partners
  • Create and maintain all community resource materials
  • Build rapport and positive working relationships with MCHS programs and operations staff in support of ongoing donor and volunteer efforts for our clients
  • Represent the agency to outside groups and organizations, including business, community, and media events
  • Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS’s mission and vision
  • Assist with small departmental projects and provide general support to the Development team as assigned by CDO
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute events for agency programs, including Residential, Independent Living Program (ILP), Child Welfare, and Teen Infant Parenting Services (TIPS)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for event logistics, including coordination, scheduling, materials, and day-of support
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure events align with program goals and participant needs
  • Track event attendance, participation, and feedback for reporting and continuous improvement
  • Support program-specific communications, including invitations, reminders, and follow-up messaging
  • Assist with volunteer and staff coordination to ensure seamless event execution
  • Maintain organized records of event details, outcomes, and related documentation
  • Cultivate relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners through program events, including follow-up communications and engagement opportunities
  • Identify new groups, organizations, or individuals to partner with for events, strengthening community ties and program support
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute seasonal in-kind donation drives, including Easter, Summer, Back-to-School, and Adopt A Wish List initiatives
  • Conduct outreach to individuals, community groups, and partner organizations to solicit in-kind donations and support on a year-round basis
  • Track donated items, manage inventory, and ensure proper acknowledgment and stewardship of donors
  • Ensure presence during in-kind donation drop-offs and oversee the safe handling and storage of all items
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure in-kind donations meet participant needs and program goals
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with new community partners and supporters for ongoing in-kind giving opportunities
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the donor database, ensuring accurate records and supporting ongoing data integrity efforts
  • Process incoming check, cash, and online donations daily and ensure timely and accurate gift entry
  • Record and track in-kind donations, including goods and services, ensuring accurate documentation and acknowledgment in the organization’s donor database
  • Generate weekly reports on giving, donor engagement, and event-related revenue for internal team and leadership
  • Prepare, pull, and send weekly donor receipts in accordance with acknowledgment procedures
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of donor records by regularly updating contact information, cleaning duplicate entries, and ensuring data consistency in the CRM
  • Provide support for donor database maintenance projects and troubleshooting as needed
