About The Position

The Brown University Division of Advancement is seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented Development Associate to provide vital support for our fundraising success. This role is an opportunity to support the Assistant Vice President and Senior Director of Development, Inclusive Philanthropic Engagement, in cultivating a vibrant, global community of alumni, parents, and friends. The Development Associate will act as a tactical partner to our leadership team. This individual will be the first point of contact for triaging high-level donor communications, ensuring every interaction is executed with precision and sophistication. Key Impact Areas Tactical Support: Proactively manage complex calendars and coordinate high-level donor meetings that drive the University’s mission forward. Narrative & Research: Craft compelling donor briefing materials and manage follow-up communications that resonate with Brown’s most dedicated supporters. Operational Excellence: Serve as the team’s organizational backbone, facilitating retreats, managing budgets, and streamlining internal workflows. Liaison & Diplomacy: Act as a professional point of contact for campus partners and distinguished alumni, representing the Division with poise and discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional administrative experience. Or experience in a related field such as alumni relations, fundraising, higher education, nonprofits, sales, customer service, development, etc.
  • Ability to learn and advocate for Inclusive fundraising principles.
  • Proficient with audio/visual and presentation platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WebEx, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Expertise in Microsoft and Google platforms, especially Google Calendar and email, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience coordinating complex travel arrangements and calendars.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data and experience managing budgets.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and project and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment with emphasis on accuracy and deadline adherence.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently multitask and prioritize workload.
  • Highly collaborative and strong interpersonal skills in building relationships with external and internal constituents.
  • Ability to apply tact and maintain confidentiality.
  • Customer-focused, customer service orientation.
  • The incumbent must possess tact, discretion, sound judgment, and initiative.

  • Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a university setting.
  • Knowledge of BSR Advance and Blackbaud preferred.
