About The Position

The Development Associate reports to the Chief Development & Communications Officer and serves as a key member of the development team. This role supports the day-to-day operations of the department while helping to strengthen and improve the systems that drive contributed revenue and support the achievement of organizational fundraising goals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of development support experience in a nonprofit or fundraising environment and the aspirations to build a career within the field. Opportunities and room for growth for right candidate.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail and an articulate telephone manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills including self-management of work schedule - ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accomplished interpersonal skills with the diplomacy and poise required to deal with donors, including major and high-profile donors.
  • Effective team worker who can demonstrate a collaborative approach when working with colleagues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software; experience with Donor Perfect or Give Smart or other donor databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative, professional, and flexible, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required

  • Experience with budgets, events, or donor stewardship preferred.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular administrative support to the Chief Development Officer including assisting with special projects, cultivation events and donor stewardship.
  • Manage the acknowledgment process for all gifts including individual, board, foundation and special campaign gifts, ensuring relevant, timely, error-free communications that inspire donors to feel valued and loyal to the organization.
  • Provide support for cultivation of donor gifts, planned giving and special campaign mailings, including quarterly solicitations, renewals and special appeals.
  • Compilation of lists for all gift solicitations and managing solicitation calendar.
  • Track all mailings and donor outreach and assist Chief Development Officer in maintaining cultivation plans, ensuring important information is recorded and easily analyzed.
  • Provide daily reports of individual gifts to Chief Development Officer and Special Events Manager (as needed for events).
  • Assist with donor research and prospecting.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to brainstorming, planning, and strategy development
  • Assist Special Events Manager in tracking event RSVPs, preparation of donor snapshots, and compiling giving history to support personalized engagement by development team.
  • Manage department transition to new CRM system including compiling and editing donor information for input into new donor system.
  • Maintain and update CRM system records, ensuring accurate tracking of gifts, donor interactions, and prospect information.
  • Track department revenue, expenses, and budgets, ensuring accurate information and is entered into CRM.
  • Provide general administrative support, including document preparation and internal reporting.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and staffing donor-focused events in partnership with the Special Events team.
  • Serve as a liaison for donor list management, invitation mailings, and internal communications to ensure seamless event experiences.
  • Contribute ideas to improve workflows, stewardship processes, event execution, and donor engagement strategies.
  • Manage in-kind donations from donors working closely with CFH health centers and staff in distribution coordination.
  • Manage volunteer activities including scheduling volunteer opportunities both in centers and shelters, and in CFH main office.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.
