The Union for Reform Judaism's (URJ) Camp Kalsman seeks a passionate and organized Development Associate to help create a vibrant summer camp and year-round youth and family engagement experience. The Development Manager helps to implement the fundraising and development strategy to support the URJ and camps in creating communities of belonging that build confidence and character of young people, so they are inspired as leaders to make the world a better place and pursue lifelong engagement in Jewish life. The Development Associate is a part of West Camps' Development team, which focuses on strategy, coordination, and support all development activities, throughout URJ West.

  • Collaborate with camp leadership and the Development Director to execute fundraising strategies, including annual and capital campaigns, planned giving, grant writing, and alumni engagement.
  • Support the Executive Director, Kalsman Camp Director, and Development Director in managing relationships, coordinating development activities, and cultivating major gifts and grants from individuals and organizations.
  • Contribute to URJ-wide priorities and the broader organizational goals.
  • Manage the administration of development activities, ensuring accurate and timely donation recording and acknowledgments.
  • Manage the Donor Database (Salesforce), including running queries, generating reports, and analyzing data to optimize fundraising strategies.
  • Support alumni efforts by maintaining and streamlining the alumni database.
  • Assist in creating and delivering regular reports for gifts, campaigns, and targets in collaboration with the Development Director and Camp Directors.
  • Manage grant reporting to ensure compliance and accurate tracking.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling and note-taking for the Executive Director, Development Director, and key lay leaders.
  • Partner with the Marketing team to coordinate fundraising communications, including event publicity, website updates, and materials like appeals, newsletters, and donor communications.
  • Support marketing efforts to promote camp fundraising and community engagement.
  • Ability to engage with donors, cultivate relationships, and support fundraising efforts (annual campaigns, capital campaigns, planned giving).
  • Experience in planning and executing fundraising events, donor cultivation activities, or community outreach programs.
  • Proficiency in using donor management systems, particularly Salesforce, for database entry, query building, and report generation.
  • Ability to analyze donor data and patterns to inform fundraising strategies and improve overall development efforts.
  • Strong administrative background with a focus on organization, scheduling, and support.
  • Strong ability to craft clear, professional, and persuasive written materials for donor communications, appeals, newsletters, and reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to engage with stakeholders, lay leaders, camp leadership, and donors.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative in supporting fundraising efforts and other development activities.
  • Strong ability to assess priorities and manage time effectively to meet goals while ensuring personal well-being.
  • Skill in articulating needs and challenges clearly to foster a transparent and collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining respectful communication and timely responses to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with diverse teams to achieve defined goals, ensuring clarity in roles and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to learn about the broader organizational context and strengthen collaborative initiatives.
  • Experience in or willingness to create equitable, diverse, and inclusive environments that foster a sense of belonging.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or a related discipline).
  • 1-3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or development, preferably in a non-profit or educational setting.
