About The Position

The Development Assistant provides administrative support and project assistance to the Director of Development and/or other key staff members. The assistant interacts with donors, community members, and board members by phone, online, and in person. This position reports to the Director of Development and primarily involves fundraising-related administrative tasks, with additional support to the other teams as needed. Some parts of this position allow space for creative project development and collaboration with other development team members. The assistant is primarily onsite/in-person.

Requirements

  • Valid Driver License
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Two years working in database management, community relations, marketing, or other related field

Responsibilities

  • Monitors organization email addresses and responds to inquiries
  • Answers the Development phone line and responds to phone messages
  • Knowledge of many organization programs and can answer questions and direct inquiries where needed.
  • Assists donors with making donations as needed.
  • Assists with weekly and monthly donation tracking, including recurring giving programs, using Bloomerang software, g-suite applications, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Executes weekly donor acknowledgment tasks and communication with donors about failed recurring donation payments.
  • Coordinates with other departments to arrange for delivery of donated items and other necessary communications.
  • Assists in keeping the donor database 'clean' by running regular reports and cleaning up errors.
  • Participates in planning and executing major Alliance events, such as the Gala for Animals, Run Fur Fun, Donor Reception, and others as needed.
  • Completes errands around town as needed using organizational vehicles or personal vehicles with mileage reimbursement.
  • Executes weekly and monthly cleaning tasks to keep the office tidy. Maintains an organized space and improves as needed.
  • Assists with inventorying and ordering office supplies, retail items, and event supplies.
  • Attends and/or facilitates smaller events such as supply drives, tabling, and community outreach.
  • Completes additional tasks as needed to assist other members of the development team.
  • Attends weekly Development meetings, weekly one-on-one meetings with direct supervisors, and quarterly all-staff meetings.
  • Treats animals humanely, with compassion and concern, both on and off the job, and conveys these values to others, in word and action.
  • Represents Animal Friends Alliance in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, and staff, recognizing their individual contributions to Animal Friends Alliance.
  • Monitors, supports, motivates and champions volunteers and their work.
  • Solicits monetary and in-kind donations by raising awareness of the organization's work, goals, and financial needs.
  • Follows all safety rules to ensure a safe work environment at all times.
  • Learns basic duties of other departments, and supports other departments and staff.
