About The Position

At the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC), we have a mission to diminish poverty and enable self-sufficiency for all Howard County individuals, families, and children in need. We take action towards this mission by focusing on four critical services: housing assistance, food assistance, energy and weatherization assistance, and early childhood education. CAC impacts our local society by changing lives and helping create a pathway through and out of poverty or just providing a hand up when one is needed. The Development & Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supporting CAC’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts while managing a robust volunteer program that powers our mission. This role helps cultivate donor and volunteer relationships, helps support events and campaigns, and ensures high-quality experiences for supporters and volunteers. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Coordinator works closely with staff, volunteers, board members, and community partners to advance CAC’s mission and impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, human services, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3–5 years of experience in fundraising, volunteer coordination, or nonprofit engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting with donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Proficiency with CRM databases and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with volunteer management software is a plus.
  • Creative and enthusiastic team player with a passion for community service.
  • Commitment to CAC’s mission of diminishing poverty and enabling self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of annual fundraising campaigns, special appeals, and capital campaign activities.
  • Manage donor recognition letters with staff 'Thank You Corp' and follow up with donor inquiries as they arrive.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and moves management activity in the CRM system.
  • Provide support for donor meetings, tours, and cultivation events.
  • Help coordinate logistics for stewardship activities, including donor recognition and giving societies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers across CAC programs, including the Food Bank, Head Start, and events.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and schedule volunteers; match skills and interests with organizational needs.
  • Develop and distribute volunteer communications (newsletters, updates, recognition materials).
  • Track volunteer hours and impact data for reporting and recognition.
  • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events and activities with department.
  • Build partnerships with local schools, businesses, faith groups, and civic organizations to grow volunteer engagement.
  • Provide administrative and on-the-ground support for fundraising and community events (Evening of Impact and community drives).
  • Coordinate logistics for volunteer-driven initiatives such as food drives, supply drives, and seasonal campaigns.
  • Help secure in-kind donations and sponsorships to support events.
  • Contribute volunteer and donor stories, photos, and impact highlights for newsletters, social media, and reports.
  • Help manage content related to donor and volunteer engagement on CAC’s website.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of donors and volunteers, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Prepare reports on volunteer hours, donor engagement, and campaign progress for staff and board use.
  • Provide staff support to the Development & Community Engagement Committee of the Board.
