About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of spacecraft development engineers, you will contribute to the development of the Vision Based Navigation Algorithms and Software for multiple lunar missions. You will contribute to the code development of flight and simulation software technical baselines, software implementations, vision navigation modeling and implementations, interfaces across multiple spacecraft to enable mission closure. You will engage with the cross-program software organizations to ensure spacecraft as-built configurations of hardware and software meets the mission needs. You will support the integrated GN&C subsystem hardware and software through the full lifecycle starting at preliminary system level definition, detailed subsystem design and performance analysis, vehicle assembly, verification, system validation, mission certification, and mission operations. Requirements

  • M.S. degree in Aerospace, Robotics or Related Engineering Fields with 1+ years of demonstrated experience in vision-based navigation software development.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Robotics and Computer vision applications.
  • Demonstrated Experience with Camera hardware and calibration.
  • Demonstrated Experience with real-time embedded software development on spacecraft or launch vehicle flight systems in C++ or Rust
  • Highly organized team player with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Spaceflight mechanics, Orbital dynamics, Rendezvous Proximity Operation and Docking
  • Experience with Terrain Relative Optical Navigation and Vision Based Navigation algorithms and software
  • Previous experience with individual technical disciplines of spacecraft navigation, orbital guidance, and spacecraft propulsive trajectory and attitude controls
  • Previous experience with software development under NASA NPR 7150.2D or FAA DO-178C standards
  • Experience with NASA software, simulation tools, and environments (Trick/JEOD/cFS)
  • Experience with validation and verification approaches such as software unit testing, system simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing or integrated subsystem testing
  • Experience with software development in C, C++, Rust, Python
  • Experience with development and deployment of CI/CD systems
  • Experience with collaboration and development tools such as Gitlab and Docker
  • Experience with full-lifecycle software development from requirements definition through deployment
  • Avionics hardware and software integration experience

Responsibilities

  • Computer Vision Algorithms and Flight Software design and code development
  • Computer Vision Software unit level and integration testing
  • Integration & testing of computer vision software modules into vehicle production baselines
  • Develop automation and tooling to improve the productivity of the team resources and drive efficiency into the team operations
