IGS is currently recruiting for a remote DevOps Engineer to support our work with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This program is a transformative initiative by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs aimed at modernizing and streamlining access to VA data and services through secure, reliable, and scalable APIs. As a member of the team, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting API solutions that empower veterans, partners, and internal stakeholders to access critical information and services efficiently.

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Argo, and other automation tools.
  • Automate build, test, and deployment processes to ensure rapid and reliable software releases.
  • Use tools like Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation to automate infrastructure provisioning.
  • Maintain version-controlled infrastructure configurations and enforce policy-driven infrastructure engineering.
  • Set up and manage monitoring tools such as Datadog, Jaeger, Kiali, and Dynatrace.
  • Implement alerting systems to proactively identify issues and analyze logs to troubleshoot and resolve incidents.
  • Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) or on-premises servers.
  • Optimize resource usage and cost efficiency.
  • Work closely with developers, QA, and IT teams to streamline workflows.
  • Advocate for DevOps best practices across the organization.
  • Integrate security checks into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Write scripts in Bash, Python, PowerShell, etc., to automate repetitive tasks and develop custom automation solutions.
  • Implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans.
  • Regularly test recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.
  • Monitor application and infrastructure performance.
  • Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, and Helm.
  • Utilize Amazon Controller for Kubernetes (ACK) to manage AWS services via Kubernetes.
  • Integrate Istio for service mesh capabilities and maintain developer portals using Backstage.io.
  • Align with and support VA Lighthouse technical infrastructure, tools, and compliance requirements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in computer science or a related field.
  • 4+ years’ experience in software development, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.
  • Strong proficiency with GitHub, including Packages, Releases, and repository management.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architecture.
  • Expertise in AWS services and infrastructure design.
  • Experience with Istio, Helm, and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with CodeClimate, Datadog, Jaeger, Kiali, and Dynatrace.
  • Proven ability to implement secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of federal security standards and DevSecOps practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Active VA Public Trust.
  • Prior experience supporting federal agencies, especially the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Familiarity with VA Lighthouse tools and infrastructure.
  • Certifications in AWS, Kubernetes, or DevOps-related disciplines.
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment.
