About The Position

Employee functions as the Training coordinator for Eddy County Detention Center. Coordinates and cooperates with the supervisors to provide delivery of training to all officers, other personnel and volunteers in the facility. Researches, develops, coordinates, and provides all necessary training, which is considered best practice in the field of corrections. Maintains good personal and professional relations, safety practices, discipline, and consults with superior on matters affecting the work of the department. Reports any unusual conditions or situations, making effective recommendations and taking appropriate actions on approved matters. Promotes and coordinates with subordinates for the enhancement of the department image in the public sector. Must coordinate and oversee the F.T.O (Facility Training Officers) Program, ensuring weekly and monthly reports are completed on all probationary employees. Will coordinate the Risk Awareness Program (R.A.P.) as the safety committee representative for E.C.D.C. Is responsible for ordering, distribution, retrieval and maintain inventory of uniforms, boots, and all other equipment. Employee will be involved in the review of security officer applications and be involved in the process of an interview panel for new staff or promotions. Firearms certification is not required, but preferred. Employee must perform all duties as assigned with minimal supervision.. This position is subject to call out in an emergency. May at times be required to perform essential duties of the working Detention Floor Shift Lieutenant position. This position is with the Eddy County Detention Center and is the senior supervisor on each shift and as such is responsible for the safe operation of the detention center within the bounds current statues, policy and procedures, and nationally accepted practices in corrections. The Lieutenant shall: be proficient in the operation of all areas of the detention center and able to perform the duties of all posts should the need arise; make routine inspections of the facility to ensure the safety of staff and inmates; prepare required reports; promote teamwork and training with all staff; notify superiors and appropriate enforcement agencies when emergency or unusual situations occur; and ensure that subsequent shifts are informed of inmates problems and any staff or inmate situations that could affect the operation of the facility. Work closely with the Compliance Lieutenant and support that department per policies and guidelines as direct by the Warden. Employee must may be required to work irregular hours, attend job related meetings, both in and out of state, and be willing to do training when needed and perform other duties as assigned and as needed.
