We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping at-risk youth. We are Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families! This position is a 12 month position within Richmond Juvenile Detention Center teaching core academic courses to small groups of students in grades 6-12. Teacher will be responsible for planning lessons based on the NC Standards and student’s individual learning needs. Teacher will be responsible for ensuring success with all students while providing appropriate and engaging activities to teach concepts. Teacher will provide research-based strategies and interventions to provide an appropriate education for all students in a small group setting. Teacher will utilize data to inform all instructional activities based on NC Standards, implement IEPs, and be responsible for keeping all student records. This position serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team in order to plan for student services and treatment. Teacher will be responsible for keeping all student records, exceptional children's program and other paperwork, and student progress up to date. The work unit is part of the Richmond Juvenile Detention Center which operates under the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Division of Juvenile Justice. This unit is dedicated to educating and rehabilitating youth within a secure residential facility. It focuses on delivering structured educational services to juveniles, many of whom have learning or developmental disabilities, with the broader goal of reducing and preventing juvenile delinquency. The team within this unit works collaboratively across disciplines to provide individualized educational and behavioral support, helping youth progress academically while addressing their social and developmental needs.
