About The Position

The Detention Officer position at the Lubbock County Detention Center is crucial for maintaining the immediate security, care, and control of inmates within the facility. This role requires adherence to all local policies and procedures, as well as compliance with Texas minimum jail standards. The officer will be responsible for the care, custody, and control of inmates, ensuring their safety and the safety of the facility. This includes admitting and releasing inmates, conducting searches, and verifying medical information. Communication with professionals and the general public regarding inmates is also a key aspect of this role. In addition to the primary responsibilities of inmate management, the Detention Officer will perform regular security checks, document inmate actions, and investigate any suspicious activities. Maintaining sanitary conditions within the detention center is essential, as is the distribution of supplies, food, and medication to inmates. The officer will supervise visitations, document daily activities, and report maintenance issues as they arise. Handling disciplinary problems, restraining violent or suicidal inmates, and responding to medical emergencies are critical components of the job. The officer will also serve meals according to established policies and maintain accurate records and logs on the computer. The position requires attendance at in-service schools and training to ensure that the officer is well-prepared for the demands of the job.
