About The Position

Routine work in the safekeeping of prisoners in the custody of the Sheriff at the Alamosa County Detention Facility. Oversees inmates during transport and in their quarters, testifies in court and processes arrest/booking paperwork for detention and courts. Must have the ability to legally carry a firearm. Full time with full benefits.

Requirements

  • Knows the applicable Federal, state and local laws and ordinances.
  • Knows preventative, protective and defensive tactics.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual.
  • Can speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to conduct proper searches with the completion of the Field Training Officer (FTO) Program.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to work schedule to meet all the obligation of the position
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Ability to follow the policies and procedures of the County and the Sheriff’s Office
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements listed below
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License Required
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • No felony convictions
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and psych evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Conducts searches.
  • Gathers evidence and interviews victims and witness.
  • Testifies in court.
  • Provides court security.
  • Follows office policy and procedure.
  • Studies applicable Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Attends education workshops.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of arrestee rights, inmate supervision, and jail principles.
  • Responsible for other duties prescribed by County Sheriff.
  • Show up for work on time and ready to work.
