About The Position

The Detention Officer at the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the custody and security of inmates at the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center. The officer will utilize principles of Direct Supervision to manage inmate interactions and oversee various activities within the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
  • Supervising experience.
  • Conflict management skills.
  • Basic typing skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of jail security techniques.
  • Familiarity with 800 radio system 10 codes.
  • Experience with desktop computers and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for custody and control of inmates.
  • Maintain security of facilities and physical movement of inmates.
  • Complete facility logs and manage inmate records.
  • Conduct searches of inmates and their belongings.
  • Enforce contraband control and inmate rules.
  • Observe inmates for abnormal conditions and correct situations immediately.
  • Inspect facility cleanliness and report maintenance issues.
  • Assist medical staff during pill runs and inmate medical visits.
  • Oversee inmate exercise and visitation processes.
  • Distribute hygiene products and clean clothing to inmates.
  • Review and respond to inmate requests and grievances.
  • Assign work to and supervise inmate workers.
