About The Position
The Detention Officer position at the Grady County Criminal Justice Authority is a critical role focused on ensuring the security and safety of the Detention Center and its inmates. The officer will be responsible for maintaining order and discipline within the facility, ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the inmates, and promoting rehabilitation. This position requires a strong understanding of policies and operational procedures, as well as the ability to implement them effectively under the supervision of a Corrections Sergeant or Team Supervisor. Officers will conduct regular inspections of inmate housing areas, monitor daily activities, enforce rules and regulations, and respond to the needs of inmates while maintaining a secure environment. In addition to the daily responsibilities, Detention Officers will be required to prepare reports on unusual incidents and maintain logs as official records. They will participate in formal training, including Arrest and Control and Firearms Training, and may be required to transport inmates, which involves driving and maintaining certification for Taser and firearms. The role may also involve assisting with the intake, booking, and release processing of offenders, as well as communicating important matters to superiors and other staff members.
