About The Position

Albany County is seeking to hire a Cook in the Detention Center. This is a full-time, benefited position that will be responsible for providing a balanced nutritional program for the inmate population. The working hours for this position will be 7:30am – 5:30pm. This position will work four, 10-hour shifts any combination of times. Weekend availability is a must.

Requirements

High School Graduate or GED
Prefer some cooking experience.

The ability to work independently as well as with other kitchen staff
Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Preparing balanced nutritional meals for the occupants according to a pre-established menu
Ensuring that preparation techniques meet OSHA safety and health requirements for: Protective barriers during preparation; Proper serving size; Proper serving temperature; Proper equipment sanitation & storage.
Accounting for utensil, equipment and implement: Counts before and after use (each meal); Proper function, condition, and needed repairs; Labor supervision & work schedules.
Maintain the security of the kitchen areas and other areas used
Receive, off-load inventory, and store all supplies
Forecast, order, and verify projected supply needs
Comply with all Detention Center policies and procedures
Report to the Jail Administrator, Sergeant, Corporal/shift supervisor
Prepare and document meals prepared for inmates with special dietary needs
Other duties as assigned.
