About The Position

This position is responsible for creating detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans for structural steel components used in manufacturing and construction projects. This role ensures all drawings are accurate, complete, and compliant with project specifications, engineering standards, and industry codes. The Detailer works closely with engineers, project managers, and production teams to support efficient fabrication and installation processes.

Requirements

  • Experience in a structural steel fabrication environment.
  • Familiarity with BIM modeling and coordination workflows.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering technology, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3+ years of experience in steel detailing, structural drafting, or fabrication drafting (preferred).
  • Proficiency in steel detailing software (e.g., Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.
  • Knowledge of AISC standards and construction drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed shop drawings for structural steel components, including beams, columns, trusses, connections, and miscellaneous steel.
  • Develop erection drawings and layout plans for field installation.
  • Interpret architectural and structural engineering drawings, specifications, and design documents.
  • Create accurate material lists (BOMs) and cut lists for fabrication.
  • Ensure all detailing work complies with AISC standards, project requirements, and company quality standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams to resolve design or constructability issues.
  • Revise drawings based on feedback from engineers, clients, or fabrication teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts between structural, architectural, and mechanical plans.
  • Support production efficiency by ensuring drawings are clear, buildable, and optimized for fabrication processes.
