About The Position

The Desktop Support Specialist position at the HRA/Department of Social Services is a full-time role located in Brooklyn, NY. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide technical support for Windows desktops, laptops, and MAC devices across various HRA/DSS locations throughout New York City. The specialist will troubleshoot and triage issues related to connectivity, resource conflicts, and other technical problems that may arise. This role also involves the installation of computers and related equipment, including upgrading memory, setting up mailboxes, and configuring devices to the network domain using established naming conventions. In addition to installation and troubleshooting, the Desktop Support Specialist will perform maintenance and repairs on computer equipment, including scanners, video conferencing systems, and printers. The specialist will act as a Local Administrator for both Windows and MAC operating systems, providing technical guidance and assistance to other technicians and microcomputer liaisons. This includes responding to inquiries related to end-user application and software support, which is crucial for meeting the mission goals of the agency. The role requires the specialist to stay updated on state-of-the-art hardware and software releases, making recommendations for inclusion in the agency's standard configuration. The specialist will also participate in evaluating new agency needs for hardware and software, utilizing the World Wide Web and other resources to gather relevant information. Comprehensive technical reports, both written and oral, will be required to communicate progress and completion of tasks and projects effectively.
