About The Position

At Butterfly Effects, technology supports the work our teams do every day to serve children and families. We are looking for a Desktop Support Specialist who can take ownership of the day-to-day technology experience at our corporate office while helping ensure our systems remain reliable across a growing network of locations. This role will give you the opportunity to go beyond basic helpdesk support and serve as a key partner to our managed service provider (MSP). The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys solving problems as they arise as well as being interested in improving systems and their own skill set over time. The right candidate will be curious about how things work, proactive about identifying opportunities for improvement, and interested in helping implement automation, system integrations, and other operational improvements alongside the Director of IT. They will have the opportunity to participate in innovative and interesting projects. Note from the Director of IT This position will work closely with me and will have visibility into many areas of our technology environment. While the day-to-day work includes supporting employees and maintaining systems, the goal of this role is broader than traditional helpdesk support. The person in this position will be given the opportunity to grow and acquire new and meaningful knowledge to help develop their career and skill set. They will be trusted to take ownership of the environments they support and help ensure our systems remain organized, reliable, and scalable as the organization grows. Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in desktop support or IT support roles
  • Strong troubleshooting ability across Windows operating systems and business applications
  • Strong experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical users
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple requests and priorities
  • Comfortable working with vendors and external IT partners
  • Experience deploying, shipping, and managing the lifecycle of company laptops or end-user devices

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in IT or a related field, bachelor's preferred.
  • 2-5 years of previous Help Desk experience in a recent role.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration or Entra ID
  • Familiarity with VoIP systems such as RingCentral or Vonage
  • Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, JavaScript, Python)
  • Experience with workflow automation tools (n8n, Zapier, Power Automate, etc.)
  • Experience supporting distributed or multi-location organizations
  • Familiarity with Fortinet / FortiGate firewall and networking environments

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary IT support resource for the corporate office, troubleshooting issues involving laptops, peripherals, printers, conferencing equipment, and business applications
  • Configure and deploy workstations and equipment for new hires and device replacements while supporting Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Manage the provisioning, shipping, lifecycle management, and recovery of company laptops across corporate and remote staff (approximately 20 devices per month)
  • Coordinate with our MSP to support technology across multiple locations, including tracking and ensuring resolution of support requests
  • Assist with new location technology setup, including coordinating ISP installations, validating network connectivity and FortiGate equipment, and occasionally traveling to support deployments
  • Manage company technology inventory across locations using our asset management platform, including tracking device assignments, shipments, and equipment recovery
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve issues or schedule installations
  • Assist with administration and support of systems including: Microsoft 365 / Entra ID RingCentral and Vonage phone systems Fortinet / FortiGate network infrastructure
  • A portion of this role will involve helping improve how our teams use technology. Examples may include: Identifying repetitive or manual tasks that could be automated Assisting with integrations between systems and internal tools Supporting automation and scripting efforts using tools such as PowerShell, JavaScript, Python, or workflow platforms Helping departments use technology more effectively and efficiently
