About The Position

The Desktop Administrator contributes to the College's success by providing, implementing, and supporting moderately complex Mac and Windows platform management and enterprise-wide desktop images for end-user computing platforms. The Desktop Administrator will create and deploy OS and application updates, as well as implement and monitor desktop encryption solutions and deploy and regulate licenses for software. They will evaluate current systems to implement innovative changes to improve support, user experience, and future system development. They will also assist with planning, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting sophisticated desktop management server infrastructure and provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for desktop support issues. They will also be responsible for endpoint patching and security, working closely with Information Security to identify and remediate security vulnerabilities. They will perform software packaging/distribution-related tasks and participate in projects, as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related field; plus, one (1) year working in a professional IT capacity or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. (3 years of IT experience, if no applicable degree).
  • Professional aptitude should include knowledge of TCP/IP networks, intermediate knowledge of current Microsoft operating systems, and basic knowledge of current Apple operating systems.
  • Ability to convey and record concepts and changes through written documentation.
  • Familiarity with encryption, LDAP, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
  • Experience working with Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.
  • Experience working with WSUS or similar OS patching applications.
  • Knowledge of VBScript, .NET, PowerShell script, or other coding experience.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, MySQL, or other languages used to manage data within a DBMS.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry-recognized IT certifications: MTA, MCSA, MCITP, MCSE, JAMF 200, or other IT certifications.

  • Experience working with imaging and software deployment tools, such as Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK), Microsoft Assessment and Planning (MAP) Toolkit, Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT), Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), JAMF, Microsoft Project, or other project management software.

Responsibilities

  • Task Development & Implementation: Identify tasks, structure a timeline, and successfully complete the tasks within the specified timeline. Work with stakeholders and other departments during project phases. Update documentation and training for the project completion.
  • Maintenance of Desktop Images, Updates, & Patches: Implement and deploy desktop images for end-user computing platforms, including Windows and Mac. Deploy OS and application updates, often in close coordination with Information Security. Support encryption solutions for all end-user computing devices. Create desired user experience through system policies and scripting. Troubleshoot issues and apply fixes.
  • Documentation & Server Infrastructure: Properly manage endpoints in Active Directory and ensure proper organization and function of desktop management solutions. Consult with the Director and Systems Engineers and assist in planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of desktop management infrastructure. Monitor and control systems in accordance with industry best practices. Update and maintain technical documentation on supported services.
  • Software Deployment & License Tracking: Perform software packaging and distribution-related tasks. Participate in projects as needed. Track licensing for software college-wide, provide reports on usage and advise of and remove software that is no longer used or that is coming to its end-of-life. Ensure updated images can run necessary software and advise departments with recommendations for upgrading or replacement.
  • Technical Support: Work closely with the Service Desk and Technical Support Services team on issues that may arise. Provide technical assistance and Tier 2 troubleshooting for desktop support issues. Ensure proper documentation of issues that arise so future problems can be quickly resolved for customers. Required to participate in a rotating schedule of IT on-call coverage and maintenance outside normal business hours. Required travel to our satellite campuses as needed.
