As an Electrical Designer, you will be responsible for providing electrical power, communication, and lighting and lighting control design services, along with supporting project schedules and quality control to achieve safe, high-quality, and efficient project outcomes. Facilitate constructability and prefabrication strategies from project inception to completion, performing 2D/3D drafting using Bluebeam, Revit, and AutoCAD and other Company software, ensuring local energy code compliance, and collaborating closely with design teams. This role involves reviewing shop drawings, developing installation documents, and coordinating with vendors and project managers to optimize project delivery.

  • Performs circuit layouts, electrical power, communication systems and lighting design services, job scheduling, job completion, quality control, problem resolution, coordination, job communication, job tracking and Company client satisfaction activities for assigned projects.
  • Facilitates constructability and prefab strategies on assigned projects from inception through completion, in consultation with the project team.
  • Completes 2D and 3D drafting tasks to support electrical construction initiatives, utilizing Autodesk and other standard Company software.
  • Works closely with design teams while applying detailed attention to modeling, clashing and annotating sheets.
  • Gathers and requests specific information from other design disciplines necessary to move forward and complete electrical designs on schedule.
  • Surveys job sites as needed for scope of work and quality to determine compliance with the prepared documents.
  • May prepare detailed engineering and construction installation documents, develop conceptual designs, sketches, or value engineering ideas to help prepare estimates.
  • Provides calculations, specifications, estimates, device coordination, proposals and other details required to complete electrical designs on schedule.
  • Consults with vendors and reviews project shop drawings for design accuracy and contract requirements.
  • May work with project teams to develop engineered construction installation drawings from contract documents developed by outside firms.
  • Participates in electrical construction-related training.
  • Supports and complies with all BIM, modeling, prefab, technologies, and planning standards.
  • Provides recommendations for changes to improve standards and procedures, as necessary.
  • Responds to questions and addresses problems with appropriate resolutions and plan revisions.
  • Stays informed of new electrical and safety codes, materials, technologies, and practices.
  • Assists in managing design budgets and forecasting resource needs.
  • May attend BIM coordination meetings and/or multi-discipline design review meetings and make appropriate changes as needed.
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, foremen, project teams, specialty contractors, vendors, suppliers, user groups and others.
  • Teaches and mentors design team members as needed.
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in electrical engineering, electrical design, or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited bachelor level engineering technology (ABET) program required for engineering track roles.
  • Minimum 6-7 years of BIM modeling experience and electrical design experience.
  • Healthcare, heavy industrial and/or data center design experience a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an IBEW Inside Wireman Journeyman Electrician, including time served as an apprentice.
  • Proficient in using electrical tools and equipment.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program through the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) or similar electrician training program.
  • Experience and proficiency using Revit, Autodesk, Navisworks, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Considerable experience supporting field electricians.
  • Strong desire to learn more about electrical design and field installation methods of large-scale construction projects.
  • Trained and proficient with design techniques, electrical specifications, documentation, scheduling and power, lighting, and systems design work.
  • Skills to read, interpret and understand electrical contracts, plans, drawings, and specifications.
