About The Position

Shive-Hattery's West Des Moines, Iowa office has an immediate opening for a new graduate or early career Designer with 0 to 5 years of professional experience. The candidate will work full-time seeking growth opportunities with focus on BIM related current and emerging technologies. Candidate will be an integral member of a collaborative team of Engineers, Architects, and Designers working on all phases and aspects of our varied projects with a focus on the building envelope. Under the direction of the Studio Leader and team members, this position performs a variety of duties associated with architectural design expertise in the performance of duties that will include supporting a variety of Public / Government, Higher Education, Healthcare, K-12 Education, Insurance, Industrial and Commercial projects. Candidate should possess an ability to adapt to different project delivery methods required by our clients and production team members. Participates and contributes to design discussions, idea generation, collaboration, and design work in drawing, model and 3D image formats. Manages the production and coordination of design process and technical documents under the direction of a licensed design professional. Creates graphical images. Produces design and detailing in Revit and/or AutoCad. Attends project and client meetings with design professionals and Architects. Interacts with and is a representative of Shive-Hattery with clients and contractors as it relates to on-going project. This position requires working closely with project design leadership to develop and deliver projects. It requires communication skills with individuals within the organization with an ability for acting independently on assigned tasks but in conjunction with the project’s objectives. Projects may be solely building repair and maintenance work, while others will be in support of Architectural and Engineering projects which require services of the Building Envelope Studio. Accredited programs in Building Technology, Construction Management or Architectural Drafting are deemed essential backgrounds for this role. An ability or desire to obtain a Registered Roofing Observer and/or Registered Roofing Consultant credential is desired. Seasonally, a large portion of the day is spent on project sites. The physical demands include climbing ladders and walking building and roof perimeters. Safety is a priority by following all company and OSHA safety standards, policies, practices and procedures.
