About this Role NorthStar Energy Services, a Quanta Services company, is seeking an Engineer Designer to support engineering and design activities within our Huntersville, North Carolina division. This office focuses primarily on natural gas transmission and distribution engineering throughout the Southeast, delivering both project-specific services and turnkey EPC solutions. The Engineer Designer will be responsible for piping design deliverables across multiple concurrent projects, supporting engineering teams from conceptual development through final drawing issuance and project closeout. This position plays a critical role in translating engineering intent into accurate, constructible design documentation.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED Required
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
  • Working knowled ge of applicable codes and standards including API, ASME, ASTM, and 49 CFR 192
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in drafting & Design Technology, Engineering Technology or similar is preferred
  • 5+ years is preferred
  • Experience within the natural gas industry is preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment

Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D piping models using CADWorx Plant (2020 or newer) and AutoCAD
  • Interpret P&IDs and conceptual layouts to design equipment and piping systems for natural gas facilities
  • Prepare plans, sections, details, isometric drawings, and construction-ready documentation
  • Generate bills of materials (BOMs) from 3D models and support process deliverable compilation
  • Compile and distribute project documentation including status reports, punch lists, and as-built sketches
  • Apply company standards, municipal requirements, and regulatory codes to all design work
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of piping and mechanical drawing deliverables
  • Coordinate with engineering teams and other disciplines to ensure design consistency and constructability
  • Review third-party vendor drawings for alignment with project scope
  • Manage multiple project assignments while adapting to shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Support engineers with standards review, permitting inputs, and design documentation
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of design and project coordination
