As the Designer, you will assist in the design and development of products, machinery or tooling while providing project management, coaching, and mentoring over design teams and projects. Conceptualize, design and develop, in coordination with other product development personnel, new and changed products, parts, machinery or tooling. Work with concept and product modeling in 3D, component selections/sizing, testing as required for new products and or field related issues, drawing changes/revisions, and engineering change notices.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of relevant work experience required.
  • 2 Year / Associate Degree or equivalent years of job experience required.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems (AutoCAD and Inventor Preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform work under minimal supervision regarding creation of complex drawings for new products, changes to existing products and special design requests using computer-aided design technology under direction of design team.
  • Oversee and prepare as necessary the bill-of-materials on complex new and changed designs and special design requests.
  • May be responsible for training new team members on CAD file management and maintenance practices.
  • Significant involvement in the prototyping and testing of new designs. May be required to set-up, run test equipment and oversee entire prototyping process.
  • May provide support to sales and marketing staff by creating submittal drawings or technical assistance on complex inquiries.
  • May provide technical direction to shop floor personnel to correct complex sheet metal product design problems as they arise.
  • Communicate design problems to appropriate engineering personnel for corrective action.
  • May assist in resolving field problems by traveling to the site if needed and evaluating the source of the malfunction.
  • May participate in value engineering projects to continually improve the cost efficiency of design and manufacturing processes in the form of drawing changes and IAN completion (BOM work) as directed by design team.
  • Oversee the release of designs into production, including any necessary testing and training required for implementing new or changed designs.
  • Assist in cost analysis process, submitting design proposals and project costs, evaluating and specifying tooling required to implement a new design.
  • Support project management and training of the design team.
