About The Position

The Designer II, Fire Protection will assist in the design of Fire Suppression, Fire Detection systems, and in Life Safety Code Analysis. This role involves performing tasks related to fire protection design, including calculations, drawings, and specifications for small projects. The Designer II will oversee the entire lifecycle of small projects related to fire protection, which includes layout, permit procurement, field surveys, coordination, creation of fabrication lists, and addressing field-generated questions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Fire Protection journeyman or apprentice experience preferred
  • NICET II minimum preferred
  • Ability to self QC drawings prior to submitting to peer review
  • Able to perform calculations and lists on projects
  • Estimate design hours for projects
  • Provide basic information to develop change orders/RFIs
  • Takes responsibility for meeting deliverable deadlines
  • Able to competently and accurately decipher contract drawings, calculations, and specifications
  • Able to competently and effectively coordinate projects
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done
  • An ability to work in a collaborative environment with other team members
  • Excellent working knowledge of fire protection design, building codes, types of equipment utilized in the industry, and system operations

Responsibilities

  • Competently performs the items of Fire Protection Designer II
  • Completes calculations, drawings and specifications related to fire suppression and detection systems for small projects
  • Oversees entire lifecycle of small project as it pertains to fire protection including layout, permit procurement, field surveys, coordination, creation of fabrication lists, answering and assisting with field generated questions, RFI creation, and as-builts
