About The Position

The Designer I role is an important role which supports design and production. They will be responsible for helping to design elevated commercial fashion product. They will report to the Creative Director and work closely alongside Senior designer on the team. They will also play a pivotal role in pre-production as the liaison, between design and production. The role is ideal for a strong collaborative creative who has a keen fashion sensibility is highly organized and thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a passion for product. The responsibilities described below are considered essential functions of the role.  This position is based in our NYC office and requires working on-site five days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of handbag experience
  • Proficient in rendering handbags and hardware using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong sketching and visual skills
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively and take direction with ease
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to travel domestically or overseas, if necessary

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of handbags by creating sketches and technical drawings aligned with seasonal brand direction
  • Manage ongoing communication with overseas teams to ensure design deliverables meet all SMS deadlines
  • Collaborate with Production to ensure all specs are received with speed and accuracy to meet deadlines
  • Assist and maintain daily tracker for development
  • Maintain swatches and materials
  • Assist and facilitate market sample specs seasonally
  • Assist with material development, ordering and tracking with suppliers
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with support and resources as needed
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
  • Ability to perform complex verbal and written communications face-to-face and in group settings
  • Work responsibilities frequently concern confidential and/or sensitive information requiring the use of discretion at all times
  • Job duties are widely diverse, and frequently require conceptualizing, planning and implementing
  • Strong follow-up and completion skills
  • Under limited supervision, anticipates and solves problems for self
