About The Position

F.E. Moran Fire Protection is seeking a Fire Protection Systems Designer for their Kansas City office. The ideal candidate is someone who is eager to tackle new challenges in Fire Protection design, respects traditional methodologies while embracing innovation, and is keen on developing new skills in the field. This role involves using design software and complying with various standards and codes.

Requirements

  • Experience using Fire Protection design software such as Hydratec, AutoSprink, and/or AutoCad.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and other applicable federal, state, and local codes.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree; or equivalent relevant experience; NICET certification.
  • Critical thinker with mathematical aptitude; strong attention to detail; good working knowledge of hydraulic calculations; ability to read and understand construction blueprints.
  • Ability to quickly adjust to a changing environment and manage priorities under time constraints.
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and thoroughly prepare code compliant fire protection system designs within stipulated timeframes for a variety of projects.
  • Produce fire sprinkler design drawings that maximize efficiency, meet code compliance and industry standards and specifications; perform hydraulic calculations to determine pipe sizes.
  • Stocklist materials for fabrication and purchasing.
  • Coordinate pipe and sprinkler locations with building components and other trades.
