GFT is seeking a Designer / Field Lead that will deal primarily in the rail transportation industry to join our Transit and Rail Team in the Greater Philadelphia, PA region . This role follows a remote model with the occasional visits to the Valley Forge, PA and Philadelphia, Pa office. Explore some of our signature transit and rail projects. What you’ll be challenged to do: Designer / Field Lead that will support GFT endeavors in the rail transportation industry. Individual will perform office design / LiDAR extraction functions related to track, utilizing CAD software (Civil3D, OpenRail, TopoDOT). In addition to this office role, the candidate will be able to function as a crew member / chief of an rail systems engineering survey party for design and construction support. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Field Lead functions include; Coordinating access to railroad properties Preparing site specific work plans for client approval Research record legal information with municipal and client real estate groups Preparing field material (OneCall tickets, stakeout points, references, search points) Perform LiDAR survey measurements utilizing Trimble TX8 Perform GNSS survey measurements utilizing KeyNet VRS, Trimble R12, Trimble R10 Receivers Perform Conventional survey measurements utilizing Trimble S5 / Trimble S6 robotic total station Manage crew protection provided by client on site, to navigate the project area Processing field observations / LiDAR data utilizing Trimble Real Works, Trimble Business Center, OPUS, StarNet, TopoDOT Draft deed mosaics and ROW valuation maps to align to surveyed information for PLS review Draft processed data to mapping deliverable for design use Surface Linework Labels Correlation of OneCall record information to survey Extraction of features from LiDAR datasets Support rail construction through survey stakeout, directing equipment operators / work gangs on ballast cut/fills and track alignment / profile adjustments Designer functions include; Review and understand host / owner railroad design requirements Utilize Civil3D and OpenRail to support rail systems design Design of track and civil works to support rail systems engineering efforts for PE review Alignment Profile Geometry / Curve Tables Grading / Earthworks Clearance Analysis Regression of surveyed track to existing alignment and profile geometry Drawing package production Adhere to ISO 9001:2015-certified Quality Management System during preparation of submittals The combination of these functions will lead to a well-rounded skillset. Design leads to an understanding of survey needs, while survey and construction help drive a deeper understanding of design feasibility.
