About The Position

We’re building tomorrow’s fleet today. With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. The Role: Designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, AUTOCAD, SHIP CONSTRUCTOR AND NAVISWORKS. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments. Considerable knowledge of the job. Substantial acquaintance with and understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job. Direct General supervision and instructions given for routine work and detailed instructions given for new activities or special assignments. Duties & tasks are varied but standardized. Performs some more advanced functions. Resolves routine questions and problems, and refers more complex questions to higher levels. Contacts are typically with individuals within own department and occasionally with contacts outside own organization. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data requiring some explanation or interpretation.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 years experience or a combination of education and experience can be used in lieu of a degree (HS diploma and 5 years in a related field).
  • Must be a current employee.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidate should be proficient in reading and utilizing Pipe Detail Design Drawings and Pipe Fabrication Details.
  • Should also have understanding of pipe materials, welding and fabrication process.
