About The Position

This position is responsible for creating detailed 2D AutoCAD drawings to be released for equipment fabrication. This includes developing sheet metal flat patterns and machining details for the required parts. The designer will work from reference drawings and a provided machine design, and is expected to follow standard GEM design practices for all parts and prints.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of machining and the manufacturing process.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of mechanical systems, layout, and design principles.
  • Follow instructions effectively from Team Lead and Project Engineer.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in 2D drafting using AutoCAD.
  • Experienced in 3D modeling with Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications and email communication tools.
  • Maintain positive and professional working relationships across all departments and with colleagues.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in drafting or mechanical design role, preferably within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD drafting, with the ability to create accurate and fabrication-ready technical drawings.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Understanding of sheet metal design and machining details, including flat pattern development.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drafting standards, such as third-angle projection, section views, proper scaling, and dimensioning.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Create clear, easy-to-understand technical drawings.
  • Ensure all drawings are accurate and align with GEM Equipment standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in third-angle projection, section views, bills of materials (BOM), scaling, and proper dimensioning.
  • Reference standard prints and drawings supplied by Engineers, Team Leads, and Project Engineers.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects, ensuring timely completion through a well-organized and effective workflow.
  • Perform periodic checks on projects in the shop to verify accuracy and progress.
  • Provide field support as required.
  • Access and utilize the company database to retrieve information on specific parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Consistently demonstrate strong productivity and high-quality workmanship.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with Engineers, Team Leads, and Project Engineers regarding questions or concerns.
  • Collaborate with production teams to address issues, concerns, and design changes, in coordination with an Engineer, Team Lead, or Project Engineer.
  • Maintain a strong safety record and adhere to all safety protocols and practices.
  • Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
  • Respectfully take direction from manager.
